In third grade students are expected to know the following prayers : Our Father. Hail Mary. Glory Be, and Act of Contrition
Please review the process of confession with your child. We will be doing this in class, but any extra practice helps.
Confession Practice
Priest: The priest will greet you. You respond to greeting.
Together you make the sign of the cross.
Priest: “In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit”
Child: Amen
Child: “Bless me Father, for I have sinned. It has been ________ since my last confession. These are my sins...." When you have confessed all your sins say, “I am sorry for these and all my sins”.
Priest: Talks to you about your sins and gives you a Penance: and concludes with “Now make a good Act of Contrition.”
Child: Act of Contrition
“Oh my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended You, and I detest all my sins because of your just punishments but most of all because they offend You, my God, who is all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and amend my life. -AMEN"
Priest: Says a prayer of Absolution. “God, the Father mercies, through the death and resurrection of His Son has reconciled the world to himself and sent the Holy Spirit among us for the forgiveness of sins; through the ministry of the church may God give you pardon and peace, and I absolve you from your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”
Child: Make the sign of the cross and answers “Amen.”
Priest: “Give Thanks to the Lord for He is good.”
Child: “His mercy endures forever.”
Priest: (Dismissal) the priest may say “Now go in peace” or something similar.
Child: “Thank you Father and God bless you.”
Apostles Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
After Communion Prayer
Dear Jesus,
Thank you for coming to me, I offer myself to You as You offer Yourself to me. I give you my heart that I may love You, I give You my thoughts, words and actions, so that I may think of You, speak of You, and show Your love to others.
Amen
